Functional addition to NTM to support cable plant

I've used LANSurveyor for years, and still maintain it. I looked at the NTM in beta and decided the price / performance ratio wasn't good enough to warrant. After consideration and reading the Thwack comments, I feel that is still justified. In my book, if you added one feature that is hard (and / or expensive) for network admins to add, the product would be far more palatable at it's price point. We are using NPM, NCM, SAM, UDT, IPAM, ET, NTA, WHD, and DameWare, so price points don't scare me off, but the one piece of my network puzzle that drives me absolutely nuts is cable plant management and documentation. The methods range from using a spreadsheet or database, through using embedded custom fields, and up to expensive software products specifically for that function. I would love to see that management functionality added as a drill-down and custom reports in NTM. Once you have discovered a network or imported it from another module, you could click on links to embed the appropriate rack / panel / port / media information. Once in the database, and admin could drill down on any link to obtain the physical and logical data for the circuit. This would be a boon for documenting fiber types, connection and panel information, Cat5 / 5E / 6 / 7 information, cable identifiers, carrier circuit info, whatever. Formatted reports could extract info per user panel, circuit, etc. For extra points, when a tech gets a ticket for a workstation problem to troubleshoot, you could drop in a graphic of his entire distribution chain.  THAT would be value and a time saver in my opinion. it would also add value to acquiring the related products as a marketing venue. Otherwise, I would return to my original suggestion during development, that the NTM functionality should be integrated into NPM as a value sweetener rather than sold as a separate product.

Automatically display job check boxes to NPM/NCM when adding a new node.

Sometimes my team members add new nodes to NPM/NCM, and they miss adding those new nodes to existing jobs in NCM.

When adding a new node to NPM, there's a box to select for managing that node with NCM.

How about having NCM/NPM display a list of customer-created jobs within the "manage with NCM" section when adding a new node, so team members can just check mark boxes to add a new node--or group of nodes--to various jobs.

For example, I have certain jobs to run against all nodes, and some jobs to run against only a subset of my nodes.  There are even some jobs that should NOT be run against Cisco Wireless controllers--but SHOULD be run against all other new devices.  Jobs include canned ones like Inventory Discovery, Daily Config Change reports, Nightly Backups, and also some custom scripted commands we want run on a regular basis on certain devices.

Having every user-created job present as a checkbox in the NCM Node Management area, and using those checkboxes to add a new node (or group of new nodes) into specified jobs, would be a real time saver for us.

I think it would be good if Solarwinds brings on WebHook option... This can help in integrating it to other products very easily...

VNQM does not support the creation or monitoring of IPSLA Operations on Cisco Nexus platform running NX-OS.

Please add functionality for these devices as they are commonly used as datacenter switches and currently one of the most popular solution in this field.

JSON AcknowledgedBy Inbound using xMatters Integration Agent

I am working on our integration with xMatters.  One of my goals is to have the ACK passed from xMatters into Orion include the user who initiated the ACK within xMatters.  Today an inbound ACK is marked as being made by our xMatters User in Orion.  xMatters does pass in a message that explains who did ACK in xMatters but that is not visible on the Active Alert List.

In the xMatters Integration Agent they do talk about acknowledgedBy and in the context where they use it, it refers to injecting the xMatters ACK into Orion.  I also found in the REST · solarwinds/OrionSDK Wiki · GitHub  but there it almost sounds like this is used to retrieve who ACK'd in Orion.

So is it possible to reflect on the Active Alerts List who exactly ACK'd the Alert within xMatters?

The Actuator - February 19th

This edition of the Actuator comes to you from my kitchen, where I'm enjoying some time at home before I hit the road. I'll be at RSA next week, then Darmstadt, Germany the following week. And then I head to Seattle for the Microsoft MVP Summit. This is all my way of saying future editions of the Actuator may be delayed. I'll do my best, but I hope you understand.

As always, here's a bunch of links I hope you will find useful. Enjoy!

It doesn’t matter if China hacked Equifax

No, it doesn't, because the evidence suggests China was but one of many entities that helped themselves to the data Equifax was negligent in guarding.

Delta hopes to be the first carbon neutral airline

On the heels of Microsoft's announcement, seeing this from Delta gives me hope many other companies will take action, and not issue press releases only.

One email notification even if multiple files have been uploaded via the MFT server

Hello everyone,

when I request files from our customers via the MFT server, I receive an e-mail notification for each uploaded file. Although the customer calls the URL once and uploads e.g. 4 files, I get 4 mails. IS it possible to build a Feature that  informs me only once per E-Mail even if several files were uploaded per call.

Thanks

Best Regards

Reporting: New and Improved Compliance Reports

It has been over a year since Microsoft went to Monthly Quality Rollups with a new standard naming convention.

"yyyy-mm Security Monthly Quality Rollup for xxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

Like others, we have a mix of 2008, 2012 and 2016 windows servers.

It would be great if there were stock compliance reports based on month.

for example:

"All Servers that are not current"  based on current month

"All Servers current within 1 month"

"All Servers current within 2 months"

etc.

The odd report with a pie chart for management would also be required.
